City of Gonzales to start construction on first community center
The community center will open in 2026
In Gonzalez, golden shovels hit the ground, marking the start of a new construction project for the first community center in the city.
The center will be located next to the high school and will have a library, meeting spaces and a community hall for locals to enjoy
The location of the center was intentional because the center will also have a Teen Innovation Lab, which will become a space for teens to study, learn, and meet.
The Gonzalez Youth Council said they have been asking for a space like this for a long time.
"We've always wanted a space where youth and teens can come together and just have a place like to do their homework or hang out with friends," said Luke Naegle, a Youth Council member.
The total cost of this project will be approximately $50 million, but it will be phased out over time. The project is being funded through local, state and federal funds and will be completed by 2026.
Even though the project is years away locals said they are ready for this promising center in their town.
