Substance Abuse Can Hide
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration awarded a grant to the Natividad Medical Center to develop and implement a substance abuse training program for the hospital's resident physicians and other community health care providers to identify and help patients at risk for developing health problems related to substance abuse. The program does not focus on patients who are chronic alcoholics but rather those who hold down full time jobs, stay out of trouble but are at risk for developing health problems related to substance abuse from binge drinking or prescription medication abuse. The article focused on the grant they received to develop this program and the importance of early diagnosis.
