EAST MEETS WEST IN INAUGURATION OF PRESIDENT CLARA YU OF THE MONTEREY INSTITUTE OF INTERNATIONAL STUDIES

MONTEREY, Calif. – April 19, 2006 – Dr. Clara Yu will be inaugurated in a private ceremony as the 12th president of the Monterey Institute of International Studies on Saturday, April 22. The inauguration ceremony will be the first of its kind for the 50-year-old Institute, a reflection of its recent affiliation with Middlebury College in Vermont, founded in 1800.

WHO: 
President Clara Yu of the Monterey Institute of International Studies
Dr. Yu was Middlebury College's vice president of languages and director of the Middlebury Language Schools. Born in Taiwan, Dr. Yu first came to the U.S. as a scholar of comparative literature. She is internationally known as a leader in the use of technology in higher education, and founder of the National Institute for Technology and Liberal Education.

WHAT: 
Inauguration of the 12th president of the Monterey Institute
Dignitaries from the east and west coasts will gather to usher in a new era of international education. President Ronald Liebowitz of Middlebury College and former U.S. Ambassador to France Felix Rohatyn will speak. The new, world-class Board of Trustees will attend, as well as the Board of International Advisors and past presidents of the Monterey Institute and Middlebury College.
